SSB mobility study - Stuttgart residents use public transport more frequently than ever before

30. April 2025

SSB, one of our long-standing mobility research clients, has a comprehensive mobility survey carried out every year - the results for this year have now been published for the first time by SSB, because the results are very exciting: people in Stuttgart are using buses and trains more frequently than ever before. Even after the pandemic, they continue to make many journeys on foot or by bike. The car, on the other hand, is being used less and less - only every second private car is still in daily use.

Transport remains the top issue in Stuttgart - and the SSB is seen as part of the solution. Satisfaction with the public transport service is high and continues to rise: 80% of Stuttgart residents are satisfied overall, with the route and line network being particularly emphasised with 91% satisfaction. The frequent service is also impressive - 96% of passengers are even satisfied with the light rail system. Satisfaction with ticket prices has been growing continuously since the introduction of the 9-euro ticket and the Deutschlandticket.

In total, 26% of all journeys in Stuttgart are made by public transport - a strong figure. SSB sees the results as an important impetus to continue to consistently align its services with the needs of passengers. The city's clear commitment to SSB at reinforces this course. The city and SSB are working together on a successful mobility turnaround - for a Stuttgart worth living in. We are delighted that our mobility research can contribute to these important findings with the annual mobility survey.
